Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When she was young her carnival barker father died, leaving Ruth's mother with no choice but to be a cleaning woman and waitress to feed the family. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. After only two school years the young woman left to pursue an acting career. The path was difficult to pursue. Even though she got an opportunity at a theatre in New York posing as a woman for a magazine but no theater jobs were offered to her. Then in NYC, she was employed at a bar, as a check-in girl before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. She was in Boston in which she was employed during the night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time as an usherette. She received a master's diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
